Women ages 19-44 years-old who enroll in the Illinois Healthy Women Program (IHWP) are eligible for free Paps, STD screening and birth control. Tubal ligation, aka "getting your tubes tied" is also covered. To be eligible, as a single woman, your total monthly income needs to be $1733 or less. If you are part of a family of two the income limit is $2333 or less. You can call 1-800-226-0768 to check for other family sizes/income requirements. You also have to have a social security number and live in Illinois. To enroll, call 1-800-226-0768 or print out a mail-in application at: http://www.illinoishealthywomen.com/application.html.

I've applied for this program recently and I am waiting to get approved. I only make a few dollars over the amount of the allowed total monthly income.

Were any of you able to get into this program?

I just got a letter from them today telling me I need to send them a check stub when I've repeatedly told them over and over that I don't get a normal paycheck. I get paid with a regular business checking account and no taxes are taken out so the full amount is there.

I've even sent them copies of my paycheck. They keep telling me again over and over that I need a check stub.

I really need help with this. I would send them a letter from my boss, but he just went on vacation last Wednesday and won't be back until January, and if I don't send them anything else by December 17th, they will deny me.

I really hate my life right now. All I can do is mail them another copy of my paycheck from this month because I won't get paid again until this January. I don't even know if that will work.

Hi Jilliane-
Did you ever get approved for the Healthy Women Card?
Just wondering if that worked out for you.
