Free and low-cost exercise classes for seniors
Did you know that there are ten City of Chicago Senior Centers that offer all kinds of great FREE and low-cost classes for those over 60 years old? One of my patients alerted me to this service and says she absolutely loves it- she takes the "Exercise for Arthritis" series. For $30 per year, seniors can sign up for unlimited exercise classes.
LesliesList called the The Senior Center at (312) 744-4016 for more info and confirmed the price of $30 for unlimited classes. We found out that the Centers offer other types of activities as well, such as computer skills classes, driving instruction and a dining program called "Golden Dinners". We also learned that each Center has a staff (i.e. social workers) who can help seniors sign up for other programs, such as Meals on Wheels. To participate in these Centers, the senior only needs to bring an ID proving he/she is over 60.
Unfortunately, the schedule of programs for each Center is not available online, but seniors can pick up a paper catalogue of program info in person from any of the Centers. Here's the weblink to the City of Chicago Senior Center webpage: http://tinyurl.com/nwbdhb. We have included a list of the Centers below:
