FREEBIES
This is the section where LesliesList is going to compile all the free offers for health services that we come across. Some items will also be posted in other sections on LesliesList.org. Sorry for the redundancy but we want to be sure everyone hears about them.

FREE COUNSELING FOR NORTHWESTERN PATIENTS:
If you are already an established patient at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH), you may be eligible for 18 free cognitive-behavioral therapy counseling sessions, either by phone or face-to face. This is part of an ongoing study on counseling directed by NMH. Again, study participants must have a primary care physician at NMH to be eligible. Participants may also earn up to $210 for completing a series of assessments. Being on mental health- related meds is OK. The study directors will not be prescribing any medications as part of the study. Please contact Emily at 312-503-0414 for more information.

FREE MAMMOGRAMS AT ST FRANCIS HOSPITAL- EVANSTON
As confirmed on 2/25/09, St. Francis Hospital in Evanston is still performing free mammograms under a grant from the Susan G. Komen foundation (The Race for the Cure people) for patients with no insurance or those with a high deductible/no mammogram coverage. According to the scheduler we spoke to, to get the free service, you just need to call for an appointment at 847-316-6500 and ask for the "Komen Grant free mammogram". You also must have an order for a mammogram from a doctor (does not have to be a doctor at St. Francis). If you decide to take advantage of this offer, please ask the scheduler if you need to bring any other type of documentation to prove your "lousy insurance" status or whatever. The scheduler we spoke to didn't think so but she wasn't sure. The Breast Center did not answer when we tried them directly. If anyone finds out that more is required could you please post it for others? Thanks!

If you don't have health insurance, there's an Illinois program that provides free mammograms and pap smears. See the link under "Resources for the Uninsured" here: http://illinillinois.blogspot.com

FREE ACUTE CARE VISITS FOR THE RECENTLY UNEMPLOYED AT WALGREENS/TAKE CARE CLINICS:
From the Walgreens website:
"This offer applies to any Take Care Clinic patient that loses his or her job on or after March 31 and has no health insurance. Any other individual that visits a Take Care Clinic as a patient on or after March 31, and then loses his or her job and is uninsured, will qualify for the offer for the remainder of 2009.
Importantly, qualifying individuals’ dependents, including a spouse, same-sex domestic partner or minor child, are also covered by the offer as long as he or she does not have health insurance benefits.
Qualifying individuals who find employment before the end of 2009 will no longer qualify for the offer, nor will their spouses, same-sex partners, or dependent children. And, if any person who qualified for the offer obtains health insurance benefits before the end of 2009, he or she also will no longer qualify for the offer."
Validating Qualifications
"Those interested in participating in the Take Care Recovery Plan offer can visit www.takecarerecoveryplan.com or call 1-866-Take-Care (1-866-825-3227) to understand the process for determining whether they and their dependents qualify for the offer. All forms associated with the offer are available online.
In addition to having been a Take Care Clinic patient, individuals need to present their federal or state unemployment determination letter along with verification of unemployment payment prior to visiting a Take Care Clinic for care. Patients will be asked to sign a certification at the Take Care Clinic acknowledging their loss of employment and lack of health insurance benefits. In addition, Take Care Health Systems will check to confirm that each patient is uninsured.
The Take Care Recovery Plan’s terms and conditions include additional important information regarding details of the offer, including qualifications and services covered, and are available at www.takecarerecoveryplan.com.
Take Care Clinics are walk-in, professional health care centers located at select Walgreens drugstores across the country. Board certified family nurse practitioners and physician assistants treat patients 18 months and older for common illnesses and are licensed to write prescriptions when necessary that can be filled at the patient’s pharmacy of choice."
